Ingredients
2 Pounds Beef Stew Meat (sirloin Cut Into Cubes)
2 Tablespoons Flour
6 Tablespoons Butter
1 Onion, Chopped
3 cloves Garlic, Minced
8 ounces White Button Mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup Red Wine
1/2 can Beef Broth
Salt And Pepper, to taste
2 sprigs Fresh Thyme
Preparation Instructions
Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour over the meat. Toss to coat. Melt butter in a heavy pot. Sear meat over high heat in batches; remove to a plate when brown. Without cleaning the pan, add the onion and 3 cloves garlic (minced) to the pan. Sauté the onion and garlic for 2 minutes over medium-low heat. Add 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms and cook for 2 minutes. Pour in wine and beef stock. Add salt and pepper to taste, and stir. Bring to a boil, then add back into the mix the browned meat. Reduce heat to low. Add thyme sprigs to the pot. Cover and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow stew to sit for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
